I had another post planned for today but I was running yesterday and I thought of this topic (nothing like a good run to clear your head!) and I feel that it is so incredibly important that it can’t wait! There is a great children’s book by Dr Seuss called ‘Oh, the places you’ll go’ and the majority of the book is really positive and optimistic until he describes the ‘waiting’ place – a place you absolutely want to get out of as fast as you can just in case you get stuck there!!
You can get so confused
that you’ll start in to race
down long wiggled roads at a break-necking pace
and grind on for miles across weirdish wild space,
headed, I fear, toward a most useless place.
The waiting place…
…for people just waiting
Waiting for a train to go
or a bus to come, or a place to go
or the mail to come, or the rain to go
or the phone to ring, or the snow to snow
or waiting around for a Yes or a No
or waiting for their hair to grow.
Everyone is just waiting.
Waiting for the fish to bite
or waiting for wind to fly a kite
or waiting around for Friday night
or waiting, perhaps, for their Uncle Jake
or a pot to boil, or a Better Break
or a string of pearls, or a pair of pants
or a wig with curls, or Another Chance.
Everyone is just waiting.
Apparently, Dr Suess himself was in the waiting place! He really planned to become a novelist but wrote children’s books instead under the pseudonym ‘Suess’ while he was waiting to make it as a serious novelist. He never did as ‘Oh, the places you’ll go’ was his last book. Although he was incredibly successful as a children’s author he never realised his dream.
At some point or other we all seem to end up in this ‘waiting’ place. I feel like I have been in the waiting place a little bit lately. I haven’t really wanted to market or promote myself until my writing improves and I am happier with what I am putting out into the world. I really need to let this mindset go because having more people follow me will probably encourage me to create better content!
Many people may spend their entire lives in this place. Waiting for something outside of themselves to change so that they can finally give themselves permission to change. This is your life. Right HERE. Right NOW. Don’t wait for things outside of yourself to be perfect.
When is the right time to get out of the waiting place and to get busy living? NOW.
Instead of waiting we need to be taking action. Take action every day towards the things that you want to fill your days with. Create something beautiful everyday. Enjoy the journey, share your journey, be inspired by other people’s journeys! We are all on our own path – it is going to look nothing like what everyone else is doing! Don’t compare or judge what other people are doing on their path. Focus on your own path, make it the best it can possibly be! Plant flowers by that path, paint it bright colours, let other people walk on your path and share what is in your heart ♥
YOU have the power to create whatever you want if you just believe in yourself! Let go of your victim mentality – YOU are in charge! It is no one else’s fault but yours if things don’t go to plan. Own your failures, learn from them, keep changing and growing! Don’t get stuck waiting for other people’s approval and don’t wait for everything to be perfect – that day will never come. Life is always going to be messy filled with ups and downs! Set your goals and follow your heart. Create some massive focus for your days! Don’t distract yourself out of guilt. Do what you know in your heart you should be doing. Stop THINKING, just DO.
This is your life, NOW is absolutely the right time to get started on becoming the best you can possibly be! It is never too late!!
