“See the light in others, and treat them as if that is all you see.” – Dr. Wayne Dyer
I have recently been reading the novel ‘All the Light We Cannot See’ by Anthony Doerr. It is a fantastic read and I have been really enjoying it. It is set in World War Two in Germany and France and over the space of several years mainly follows two different perspectives. One belonging to a blind girl called Marie-Laurie living in Paris and that of a brilliant minded orphan boy called Werner living in Germany.
Werner lives in an orphanage and is expected to go and work in the mines when he is older. But he is very smart and clever and teaches himself mathematics and how to repair radios. After a time some high-level people hear about his abilities and he is sent to a special school for boys. Werner knows that what he is learning there does not feel right. But they are all trapped in a vacuum with no outside thought or ideas. They are all told what to think and after some time they all start to believe what they hear. No one wants to stand up for what they believe in. No one wants to step out of line. If any boy dares to step out of line or show any individual thought they get punished severely. Everyone feels trapped in a system and they feel that they can’t do anything but play their part.
They are just a cog in a wheel and have long put away any of their own thoughts or feelings.
I think it is really important that we allow ourselves to be open to many different thoughts and ideas. Closing ourselves off and just allowing ourselves to think in any one way only is dangerous. Read lots of different things. Watch lots of different things – documentaries are great! Expose yourself to different types of people. Learn from everything. My thoughts and ideas are always changing!
Every day we have a choice between living in Fear or living in Love.
When we are living in Love we choose to see the good and light in others and choose to see similarities instead of differences.
What do you expose yourself to daily? The majority of the news is negative and fear based. People are easier to control if they live in fear. The majority of advertising is fear based – it is playing off peoples fears so that they will then go and buy the product.
Every decision you make – make sure you do your own research. Don’t allow yourself to be dictated to by so called high level professions. Although there are many paths to wellness. Doctors are largely only trained in pharmaceuticals. Why is this? They don’t know it but they are largely controlled by the drug companies. Do your research. Always get second and third opinions. You know your own body, trust your intuition.
Do you value your opinions and ideas or do you disregard them? Are you confident in the decisions that you make?
We think that we are so small that what we think can not possibly make any kind of difference in the world but one person’s voice can make all the difference collectively when they speak their truth. For years I kept my mouth shut and didn’t say what I thought in fear of being different. I decided that when I turned Thirty I would try and stop all of the self-censorship. If a topic comes up that I have an opinion on I am going to share it.
Value yourself, speak your truth, be confident in your own unique thoughts and ideas.
Don’t live in fear, choose love.
